Some memberships naturally finish on a fixed date: a summer season, a school term, a 10-week course. For these, you can give the membership plan an end date.
Everyone who joins shares the same end date, billing stops automatically, and you never need to cancel members one by one.
Ongoing vs. Ends on a set date
Every membership plan has a Duration:
Ongoing (the default) - the membership renews each billing period until the subscription is cancelled.
Ends on a set date - every subscription on the plan automatically ends on the same date, no matter when each member joined.
Three things to know about the end date:
The date belongs to the plan, not to individual members. Someone who joins halfway through doesn't get a later end date - everyone finishes together.
The date you pick is the membership's last full day. Members keep access through the end of that day in your venue's timezone.
No one is billed past the end date unless subscription has been adjusted directly in the Stripe Dashboard.
Set an end date
Go to Settings → Memberships.
Click Create plan.
You can also add an end date to an existing plan only if it has no active subscribers — open its ⋮ menu and choose Edit membership.
Under Duration, select Ends on a set date.
Choose the End date. It must be at least 2 days in the future.
Save the plan.
From then on, the plan shows Ends [date] in your Memberships table, and if the plan is public, its card on the customer-facing Memberships page shows Membership ends: [date].
The end date locks once someone subscribes
You can set, change, or remove a plan's end date only while the plan has no active subscribers. As soon as one member subscribes, the Duration section locks and can't be edited.
If an existing membership already has active subscribers and you need it to have an end date, create a new membership plan with the end date set before inviting members.
So settle on the date before you start inviting members. The Duration unlocks again once the plan has no active subscribers — for example, after the membership ends.
What members see and pay
Before joining. On your customer-facing Memberships page, the plan's card shows Membership ends: [date], so customers know how long the membership runs before they subscribe.
Joining with more than one billing period left. Members are billed normally each period. The final billing period — the one the end date lands in — is automatically shortened, and the member is charged a prorated amount for just that remaining time.
Joining during the final billing period. The member pays a single prorated amount at checkout, covering the time left until the end date, and is never charged again. Checkout confirms this next to the payment button: "This membership ends on [date]. This payment covers the remaining time. You won't be charged again."
Note: Stripe's checkout page always lists the plan's regular recurring price (for example, "Then $50.00 per month"). For someone joining in the final billing period, the message next to the payment button is what applies: the amount due today is the only payment they'll make.
The final 48 hours. A membership can no longer be purchased during the last 48 hours before its end date. This ensures no one signs up for a membership that's effectively already over.
What happens on the end date
Everything is automatic - there's nothing you need to do, and no membership subscriptions to cancel manually.
Each member's subscription ends on the plan's end date, and members are notified by email that their membership has ended.
The membership tag is removed from each member, so any booking access, pricing, or quota rules tied to the tag stop applying.
The plan's status changes to Ended. It disappears from the customer-facing Memberships page and can no longer be purchased.
An Ended plan isn't deleted - it stays in Settings → Memberships, ready to be reopened.
Reopen an ended membership
You can reuse an ended plan at any time - for example, for next season:
Go to Settings → Memberships and find the plan (its status shows Ended).
Open its ⋮ menu and choose Edit membership.
Under Duration, pick a new End date (at least 2 days ahead), or select Ongoing to remove the end date entirely and make this an active ongoing membership.
Save changes.
The plan is immediately available again, with its previous public/hidden setting restored. Its membership tag, and any booking or pricing rules built on it stay in place throughout, so a reopened plan works exactly as before.
Former members aren't re-subscribed automatically. Reopening a plan makes it available for purchase again; anyone from the previous run who wants to rejoin needs to subscribe again — via your Memberships page or an invite link.
If a member wants to leave early
Members can always end their membership earlier than the plan's end date, but never later.
While the member still has renewals ahead, the usual cancellation options apply.
Once the plan's end date falls on or before the member's next renewal, the End of the current period option is no longer offered - the membership is already ending, so there's no renewal left to cancel, and they won't be billed again either way. Cancelling Immediately remains available.
If a member schedules a cancellation and then chooses Keep active, their membership continues, and still ends on the plan's shared end date.
Managing subscriptions directly in Stripe
AllBooked manages the end date automatically for every membership assigned through AllBooked - invite links, the Memberships page, and Manage membership.
If you intentionally change a membership subscription directly in Stripe, for example, cancelling it or scheduling it to end on a different date - AllBooked respects that change and won't override it to restore the plan's end date.
One caution: a subscription created from scratch in the Stripe dashboard will not pick up the plan's end date. If your plan ends on a set date, assign memberships through AllBooked to make sure every subscription ends when intended.
FAQs
Can I give one member a different end date?
Can I give one member a different end date?
No — the end date is shared by everyone on the plan. A member can always end earlier by cancelling, but no one's membership extends past the plan's end date. If different groups need different terms, use separate membership plans.
What happens to the membership tag and my rules when the plan ends?
What happens to the membership tag and my rules when the plan ends?
The tag is removed from each member as their subscription ends, but the tag itself, and any booking, pricing, or quota rules built on it remains in your venue. If you reopen the plan later, everything works as before.
